Chocolate Peanut Butter Energy Bites

Chocolate Peanut Butter Energy Bites
I love to run early in the morning, like sunrise early. And when I run that early I don't like to eat a full meal before hand or even down a big shake. So I started to make these little energy bites. They give me just enough substance to get me going, but not enough to make me full or feel weighed down. With a good combination of carbs, fats, and proteins, they are a perfect snack to have before a workout.
Serves: 35
  • 2 cups of Oats
  • ¼ cup of ground Flax
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened shredded coconut
  • ¼ cup of raw honey
  • ½ cup of peanut butter (natural and creamy)
  • 2 scoops of Protein Powder
  • Water
  • Raw Cacao (optional)
  1. Mix together all dry ingredients
  2. Add in Honey and Peanut butter and mix well
  3. Slowly add in a little water until the mixture forms together (should be a bit sticky)
  4. Form until little balls and roll in Raw Cacao if desired.
  5. Store in the refrigerator.
Oats are the best grain there is, as far as I'm concerned. They contain a special form of fiber called Beta-Glucan which plays a significant role in lowering cholesterol and promoting heart health. In Chinese Medicine oats are a great Qi boosting food, giving you lots of extra energy.

Now any nut butter can be used in this recipe but there is nothing like the flavor of peanut butter. What I love about peanut butter is that it has a nice ratio or fat to protein that helps to keep you full and maintain an even blood sugar. Go for a natural blend, organic is best. The only ingredients should be peanuts and salt.

Flax is a great source of both omega fatty acids and fiber. They also contain a substance called lignans which is known to help prevent cancer, as well as lower your risk of diabetes.

Coconut, in its natural state when it's not covered with sugar, is a great immunity booster. Its anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal and also contains antioxidants.

Raw honey has tons of health benefits. To start it is also anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. It helps to support the growth of good bacteria in the gut and can be used to treat a variety of health disorders. Raw honey helps to eliminate allergies and contains tons of vitamins and nutrients as well.

Protein Powder is a great way to increase you protein intake for the day and get all your essential amino acids in. And it is the perfect fuel for a good workout and recovery.

So whip up a batch of these little bites and then get moving!
