Welcome to holidays! Tis the season of over eating, over drinking, and over spending! With so many gatherings to attend it's hard to stay healthy during the holidays. We are bound to over indulge this time of year, it's inevitable. There is nothing wrong with a little splurging here and there as long as we try and balance it out. This cranberry detox smoothie is the perfect way to balance out all the christmas cookies and egg nog lattes. Since fresh cranberries are abundant right now pick up a bag so you can be prepared to combat the day after food hangover from the next party you attend.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup of fresh Cranberries
  • 1 cup of Spinach
  • ½ a frozen Banana
  • ½ an Apple
  • ½ inch piece of Ginger Root
  • dash of Cinnamon
  • 1 cup of Water
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients into a high powered blender and process till smooth.

Cranberries are well known for their ability to treat and prevent urinary tract infections. But they have many other health benefits as well. They can stop the overgrowth of bacteria in the gut that leads to stomach ulcers. Cranberries are also an anti-inflammatory and are especially beneficial for an inflamed digestive tract. They are packed full of antioxidants and phytonutrients which will give you a nice boost to your immune system as well.


We know that Spinach can make you strong from Popeye, but did you also know it is awesome for brain health as well. Spinach is high in Folate, which reduces inflammation that could harm brain function. It contains lots of B Vitamins, which helps to enhance memory. And it also contains L-Tyrosine, an amino acid that helps to improve focus. Perfect way to rev up your brain after a food hangover.


Bananas are my all time favorite smoothie add in. I think it’s amazing how just 1 banana can sweeten up any smoothie and give it a nice creamy consistency. Plus they happen to be a great source of Potassium and vitamin B6, which is an essential B vitamin. Bananas are known to lower high blood pressure and are a great source of dietary fiber. In both Western Medicine and Chinese Medicine bananas are also used in the treating Stomach Ulcers.


Apples are packed full of antioxidants and aids in our bodies detoxification process. Apples also contain a substance called malic acid, that helps maintain liver function and improves digestion. In Chinese Medicine apples are used to clear away heat in the body and help protect the Lung.



Ginger is used as an herb in Chinese medicine to treat nausea and upset stomach as well as preventing and treating a colds. In fact if you are feeling any of those symptoms one of the best things you can do is boil up some ginger root and make a tea. I like to include it in my smoothies to help keep my immune system strong.
