I don't know about you but after the holidays my body is feeling pretty trashed from all the sugar and carbs. All I want is a whole lot of fresh greens and veggies. Which is why I'll be drinking this green smoothie all week. The combination of ingredients in this drink are designed to alkalize and detox your body. So treat yourself right this post holiday season and give your body the nutrition its craving.

Ingredients
  • 3 stems of Kale
  • ½ Cucumber
  • ½ Avocado
  • 1 handful of Cilantro
  • 1 Lime Peeled
  • 1 cup of Pineapple
  • 1 cup to 1 ½ cups of Water depending on desired thickness
Instructions
  1. Add ingredients into a high powered blender one at a time and process until smooth.

Kale: This nutritional powerhouse is the king of greens. It is loaded with Vitamin K, A, and C. And it also has one of the highest Iron contents for a vegetable. Kale has an anti-inflammatory effect on the whole body helping to treat a wide variety of conditions. With over 45 antioxidants it is one of the best cancer fighting foods out there!


Avocado: These guys are known for containing all of your good healthy fats that help lower cholesterol. They also contain high levels of Folate and Lutein, which helps to support eye health. Avocados lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of stroke. They also bring more oxygen and blood flow to the brain, improving cognitive function. And in addition to all their healthy fats they contain a high amount of fiber and promote healthy digestion. They are known for a wide variety and anti-inflammatory benefits due to its high nutrient content. This also makes it a great cancer fighter, and overall one of the best foods you can eat!


Cucumber: This veggie happens to be one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat, and the most hydrating. Cucumbers have a high silica content making it great for the skin, which is why they are often used in facials and lotions. Because of its cooling nature it acts as an anti-inflammatory both externally and internally. In fact Cucumbers can treat everything from a bad sunburn to a stomach ulcer. In Chinese medicine it is used to treat excess heat in the body. This is the perfect thing to eat after days of holiday binging to help regulate your body to a more alkalized state.


Cilantro: If you are looking to detoxify you have to include Cilantro. This herb helps chelate (remove) heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, and lead from the body. It is also anti-bacterial and anti-viral and can help keep you from coming down with that 24 hour bug thats going around. Cilantro has a high antioxidant content including the flavonoid Quercetin, which is a powerful antihistamine and anti-inflamatory. Lime: I include lime in this smoothie not only to cover up the bitterness of the greens but to help alkalize you. Limes and Lemons are amazingly alkalizing to the body. And another reason to use limes is that they contain a compound called limonnoid which is actually shown to kill cancer cells! So yeah I would start squirting some lime juice on everything!


Pineapple: This fruit is the perfect ingredient to help cover up the bitterness of the green without being too sweet. Pineapples have the added health benefit of an enzyme called Bromaline which aids in digestion and acts as an anti-inflammatory. They also happen to be high in Vitamin C as well, giving you yet another immune boosting ingredient.
