Janet’s Healthy Pina Colada

Janet's Healthy Pina Colada

Do you like Pina Colada's? And getting caught in the rain?.....J/K! Your welcome if that song is stuck in your head now, I couldn't help myself, sorry. Lets start over. I have a special treat for you this week, my Aunt Janet's healthy Pina Colada/ Breakfast Smoothie. How's that you say? Let me explain. This smoothie can become a healthy cocktail by adding rum, or you can leave the rum out and substitute a scoop of protein powder to turn it into a great breakfast smoothie. Either way it taste like a Pina Colada. And considering that most Pina Colada recipes are loaded with extra sugar and processed crap why not make one that not only tastes good but is good for you. Summer is almost over so don't wait too long to enjoy this extra "special" smoothie.

Notes
Pineapple have the added health benefit of an enzyme called Bromaline which aids in digestion and acts as an anti-inflamatory. They also happen to be high in vitamin C, which gives you a nice boost to your immune system and your energy.

Now with the Orange we are obviously getting a double dose of vitamin C. But did you also know that oranges help to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol. They also contain phytonutrients that act as an antioxidant and anti-inflamatory.

The frozen Greek Yogurt is really the key ingredient in this recipe. The benefit of greek over regular yogurt is that greek yogurt is lower in sugar, higher in protein, and contains 20% more calcium then regular yogurt. It also provides you with probiotics to help maintain a healthy gut.

Coconut Milk is not only creamy and delicious, but it also contains Lauric acid which is an antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral agent. It also promotes heart health, aids in weight loss, and boosts the immune system.

With all these added health benefits you don't have to feel the least bit guilty about enjoying this classic summer drink.
